Flag ceremony, Homework & Home Teachers

Last Friday Zoë's class (along with another 2nd grade class) was in charge of the weekly Flag Ceremony. They do it in front of the whole school. She had a part - 'Please join me in 30 seconds of silence'. She said it so fast I didn't get a chance to catch it on film, but this is a picture of the kids who did the ceremony. (I have no idea why she talks as fast as she does......)

I swear - the dog ate my homework! That is what Trevor had to tell his teacher this morning. He told me this afternoon that she just laughed at told him he could bring it next week. He told her it would take Mom a while to get it all taped back together. (The truth is it was already in the trash, but he didn't know that.) I had to show his teacher this picture when I went to pick him up from school today. I think Trevor got his first taste of vindication.

We love our Home Teachers, Patriarch Winder & Bro. Drew. They are so faithful and they love our kids. They always have a lesson for us, sometimes a treat, but always a sweet spirit. The kids love to hear the stories Patriarch Winder sometimes tells about Grandpa Campbell. They think it's pretty neat that he knows their Grandpa, especially since he lives in Utah and we live in Las Vegas.

Kids at heart

After Trevor's t-ball game last night we decided to go to Cold Stone then walk around the temple. The kids thought it would be fun to roll down the grassy hill on the south side of the temple. It was hilarious, especially when they tried to get up and run back up the hill and were so dizzy. To my surprise Brad ran off towards them and flung himself down the hill! Well, what do you think I did?! Yep - I had to do it! Afterwards our arms and legs turned various shades of red - Trevor had welts all over his arms - but it was such a blast! After cold showers and hefty doses of Benadryl we all had a good laugh about it before crashing. It reminded me of a childhood memory.

When I was little my Dad would take me & my older sister to a LV Stars baseball game every once in a while, and sometimes we would go with the Winders (Kami, Gary & Becky). On our way into the game all of us kids would run to the top of the hill outside the stadium, before they fenced it off, and roll down it as fast as we could. My dad never once told us to stop or 'warned us' that we would be itchy during the whole game. I would even venture to say that he joined us at least once in our little adventure. He let us discover things on our own.

My favorite thing about being a parent is making these kinds of memories with my kids. I don't ever want my kids to think I'm an old stick in the mudd who never has fun unless she is nagging them. Maybe I'll be the first one to roll down the grassy hill next time...........

Hang-ups

Just a quick post...

Zoë and I were doing some laundry this morning before heading off to the grocery store - this is how the conversation went....

Zoë - "Mom, what is that pile of clothes?"

Leslie - "Those are all of my clothes that hang in the closet."

Zoë - "Wow - you have a lot of hang ups, Mom."

Oh, if she only knew that half of it, she would realize what an understatement that really is!

Friday was Trevor's turn to have a Field Day. Mom went up to help out and got some great pics of Trevor and a couple of his friends. Enjoy!

After Field Day we came home and tried out our new Solar Smores oven with our pizza box from dinner last night. It worked a little too well - the chocolate was so runny, but sooooooo yummy!

Trevor and Dad took off to the Father and Sons before Zoë got out of school, so after I picked her up we decided to head off to get pedicures! We met Leah and the girls (Madison, Emma, Karley & Paige) at Baja Fresh for dinner, then we all watched Bratz and had popcorn and krispy treats together - yum yum! It was a very spontaneous afternoon, but was very laid back and fun. I don't know about anyone else, but it was just what I needed!
